recruiter SPi Global

There is a recruiter position open with SPi Global in Madison, Wisconsin. This position requires a person to be able to recruit potential employees through many different channels. The one I found most interesting was social media. This just reinforces everything we have been told about posting on social media. Companies are now using it to recruit employees. SO anything you put anywhere can not only keep you from getting a job but now it can help you to get a job. This is something we were never taught really. We were always pushed to keep inappropriate things off of social media, but never told about the possibilities if we use it as a way to market ourselves. This job is a good position for anyone graduating with communications, one of the requirements is having good communication skills. But it is interesting to see how social media is taking over every aspect of our lives. It is how we communicate, how we express ourselves, how we connect with friends and family, as well as now it is how we can potentially find a job.

American airlines

After complications with an app on piolits iPads, flights had to be delayed for American Airlines. These apps hold all of the maps and flight plans so without the app the piolits could not go anywhere. Kind of scary right? We are so dependent on technology now that when it doesn't work we don't know what to do. It is understandable though, having these apps has saved airlines money as well as created less bulk for the piolits to carry around. I am all for that, I think it is a great idea. But, when should we draw the line in depending on technology? Personally I think it would be smart to have on hand in each airport a file that could be printed if something like this were to happen again. This still allows piolits to not have the bulky paper plans but still have access to them if needed.

Fuller house

Anyone that grew up in the 90s knows full house. Those same people are probably the reason for the potential reboot of the series called Fuller House. There has been a rumor for the past year of so that they would be putting out a reunion show. Well now it's been verified. As long as it gets approved, fuller house will be appearing on Netflix, hopefully in the near future. I personally am a huge fan of full house and cannot express how excited I am to hear this. But what does this mean for the future of TV? We see it more and more, TV shows being released online instead of on cable. Is this going to be the new norm? I think so, it seems to be happening more frequently and I think soon enough that's all there will be. Different streaming networks that will produce shows rather than catching them on cable.

social media coordinator

This job is a part time opening with The Dixon Mason Group. They are a private marketing company looking for someone to take over the social media aspect of marketing for events within 20 miles of that persons home. This is an interesting position since it is part time but also in that it can literally be wherever you are. This is a part time job that could potentially follow you wherever you go. I think this would be a great opportunity for someone going to grad school looking for a little extra cash. It's interesting because it seems that they work with small business. So to me it seems you would get a variety of experience with many different businesses.

campus recruiter/social media

This job is with Worldwide Express. They are a logistics company looking for someone to be a campus recruiter as well as run their social media. This is a huge job for anyone with a communications degree. It is basically dealing with everything we have done the past 4 years. The recruiting part of the job is just like any other recruiting position. You travel from place to place making connections with people and finding potential candidates for the job. The social media part is basically just keeping up with their Facebook page, keeping it updated. As well as utilizing their linkedIn site to connect with potential candidates. Personally I think this job would be awesome. If I were still looking for a job in this field this would be something of interest to me.

Tidal wave or just ripples in the water?

Jay Z just recently launched his new music streaming service called Tidal. This streaming service is going to be competing with other apps such as Spotify. But it will be different in that there is no free service. Jay Z is aiming to get artists the money they deserve by offering a $10 monthly package as well as a $19.99 package for higher quality sound. It launched about a month ago and apparently hasn't received much positive feedback. I personally wanted to check it out but have no desire to pay $10 a month for something that I can already get for free. Now don't get me wrong I'm all about supporting artists and getting them what they deserve. I do my part by purchasing their new albums and seeing them in concert. I've even traveled up to five hours to see some of my favorite artists(John Legend, Beyonce and Jay Z), but I'm sorry I will not pay $10 a month to listen to the music I already paid for plus some that I probably do not care to listen to to begin with. I think i am among the few that still actually pay for their albums/songs, so I cannot imagine many are going to be willing to pay for this app. I like the idea but he definitely went about it wrong.

disney

http://disneycareers.com/en/career-areas/technology-digital/digital-media/

This job would be working with digital media in one of Disneys many areas. I personally think it would be a pretty cool job. Working for such a huge company, as well as a well known company. Everyone knows Disney. I am sure it would be a lot of work but a really nice environment. Personally it doesn't interest me, I have chosen a different path in life, completely unrelated to media.
